Stefon Diggs Addresses Commanders Rumors With Vague Response While Patriots Fans Wish For Reunion originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New England Patriots released Stefon Diggs earlier this offseason, and some fans want him back to improve their Super Bowl odds even more.
The Patriots released Diggs, who was their best receiver last season. He posted a 1,000-yard campaign and led the team in receptions. However, it can be argued that they are even better as a receiving corps right now, with Romeo Doubs and A.J. Brown. Some fans want him back to help form an elite trio, but he remains unsigned.
Diggs should be able to find a new team before the season starts. One team that has been mentioned in rumors is the Washington Commanders. Diggs was born in Maryland. He played high school and college football in Maryland, so a return to his home state would not be surprising. Diggs was asked about potentially joining the Commanders and gave a vague response.
"Ah (expletive)," Diggs said to TMZ. "I don't know, man. I'm open to everything. We'll see."
Deebo Samuel is a free agent, and his return to the Commanders seems unlikely. The team drafted University of Clemson wide receiver Antonio Williams in the third round of the NFL Draft, and he could end up playing a big role. However, outside of Terry McLaurin, the team's group of receivers is unproven.
Diggs just had a stellar season after tearing his ACL the previous year. He has been cleared of all charges and was a great leader for the Patriots. A return to New England would make fans happy, but he might not have as big a role as he would like. On the Commanders, he could be the No. 2 option.
