The Pittsburgh Steelers just made an important practice squad move — re-signing a veteran running back ahead of the Week 11 matchup vs. the Cincinnati Bengals.
On Friday, the Steelers signed RB Trey Sermon to their practice squad, just two days after he was waived following the activation of rookie Will Howard off injured reserve.
Signing with Pittsburgh on a one-year deal in May, Sermon looked solid throughout preseason action but was released as part of final roster cuts in August. Signing with Pittsburgh's practice squad soon after, Sermon has been elevated multiple times this season for regular season action — playing primarily on special teams.
While Sermon is no stranger to being called up to the active roster in Pittsburgh, Steelers fans are hopeful that another practice squad member — the newly signed Asante Samuel Jr. — may see his first opportunity for playing time against the Bengals in Week 11.
