The Pittsburgh Steelers added several new faces on both sides of the football this offseason. New head coach Mike McCarthy has focused heavily on the offense but the Steelers will still have the most expensive defense in the league in 2026. But the team did get one big bargain in free agency with safety Jaquan Brisker.

Brisker slides into one of the starting safety spots alongside DeShon Elliott and gives the Steelers a pair of multi-dimensional safeties who offer up a ton of scheme versatility. Steelers beat writer Mark Kaboly thinks Brisker could be a real X-Factor on defense this season and is going to play with something to prove after signing for a fairly modest contract.

“I think he’s just so valuable, what he’s gonna be able to do," Kaboly said. "He’s motivated. He’s only making $5 million. He probably thinks he got pretty much screwed out of some cash, so he has to take that one-year, prove-it deal, coming home, playing in front of his hometown fans, to prove that he is one of those upper-echelon safeties.”

As much as we love the combo of Brisker and Elliott, there's no denying this unit is thin and the team is fortunate to have defensive back Jalen Ramsey to help bolster safety and cornerback in this defense.
