How Jalen Ramsey fits into the Pittsburgh Steelers’ new-look defense, led by DC Patrick Graham, has been revealed, courtesy of a new report that claims he’ll have an interesting role in 2026.
On Wednesday, Nick Farabaugh of Penn Live reported via the Steelers Blitz podcast that Ramsey would be playing “star” and “money” positions in 2026, which are the team’s nickel cornerback and subpackage linebacker roles, respectively.
“[Joe Whitt Jr.] said [Ramsey] is going to play the star position, which is their nickel position,” Farabaugh said. “He’s going to be their nickel corner, and he said he’s going to play the money, which is like their subpackage linebacker. It’s like a Will linebacker. Very coverage-focused guy that plays closer down, they think he can do that. They think he can play safety, they think he can play outside. They’re going to use him really as a Swiss Army knife.”
Ramsey, who was traded to the Steelers in June 2025, had a solid debut season with the Steelers last year, recording 88 combined tackles, one interception, and eight passes defended while playing all over the secondary.
With Ramsey expected to play in the slot and near the line of scrimmage, the door is open for Jaquan Brisker and DeShon Elliott to be named the starting safety tandem heading into 2026.
