With 57 consecutive victories, St. Xavier High School will enter this week’s KHSAA Boys Volleyball State Tournament as the heavy favorite.

St. X (26-0) will host Paul Dunbar at 7 p.m. Monday in a first-round match of the state tournament.

Friday’s quarterfinals and Saturday’s semifinals and final (7:30 p.m.) will be played at George Rogers Clark High School.

St. X started its club program in 1992 and has won 22 state titles, including three straight and 10 of the past 11. The KHSAA began sponsoring the sport last year.

The Tigers opened last season with a loss to Cincinnati St. Xavier and then won their final 31 matches, beating Henry Clay in the state final. In 26 matches this year, St. X has lost just two sets.

Senior Briley Codey leads St. X with 269 kills. Codey was named Kentucky’s Mr. Volleyball last season.

St. X is one of seven teams from the Louisville area to reach the state tournament, joining Trinity, Oldham County, Fern Creek, Iroquois, DeSales and North Bullitt.
