The run through the Kentucky High School Athletic Association boys volleyball state tournament has come to an end for the Ryle Raiders.

Ryle, the back-to-back Region 6 champions, fell in the KHSAA state quarterfinals to Louisville St. Xavier 25-18, 25-18, 25-12.

Ryle became the first Northern Kentucky team to win a boys volleyball KHSAA state tournament game on May 11 when the Raiders swept Powell County to reach the quarterfinals.

Ryle's season completes with an 18-4 record, losing to Walnut Hills, Louisville Trinity, and Louisville St. Xavier twice. The Tigers of St. Xavier, who are ranked No. 5 in the country in the USA Today and American Volleyball Coaches poll, won last season's inaugural KHSAA state tournament. The Tigers, now 28-0, have won 59 straight matches.

Ryle completed its first season under Heather Kidd, who was named the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association Coach of the Year. The Raiders were 13-0 in region play and won the Sixth Region tournament with sweeps of Collins, Simon Kenton and Oldham County.

Louisville St. Xavier will play the winner of Louisville Trinity and Oldham County in the state semifinals at 11 a.m. on May 16 at George Rogers Clark. The state finals will be at 7:30 p.m. the same day.
