LEXINGTON — Jeremiah Jackson went to the bench late in the fourth quarter and held up one finger.
One more win to make history for the St. Xavier High School basketball team.
Jackson put up Mr. Basketball-worthy numbers Saturday, finishing with 26 points, eight rebounds and seven assists as the Tigers whipped Grayson County 67-37 in the semifinals of the UK HealthCare Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena.
No. 3-ranked St. X (29-7) will face the George Rogers Clark-North Oldham winner in Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. championship game. The Tigers are in the state final for the first time since 1962, when they won the last of their four state titles (1926, 1935, 1958, 1962).
St. X also became the first team from Louisville to reach the Sweet 16 final since Trinity won the championship in 2019.
Chief Cameron pitched in 13 points, three rebounds and three steals for the Tigers.
Jack Logsdon led Grayson County (27-7) with 10 points.
St. X led just 27-21 at halftime after making just 2 of 10 3-point attempts in the first half. The Tigers focused on getting to the rim in the third quarter and outscored the Cougars 24-5 on their way to a 51-26 lead.
