BATTLE CREEK - The basket that gave Jackson Dzwik the school record finally came in the third quarter of a game against Pennfield on Saturday.
But the journey toward that record started four years ago.
Dzwik broke the St. Philip school record for career scoring of 1,397 points, held by 2020 graduate Conor Gausselin. Dzwik had 12 points in the loss to Pennfield on Saturday and his short jumper in the lane broke the record, as he needed 11 points coming into the game.

"This is something to be proud of. Been working for it the last four years, been in the gym a lot. Put a lot of work into it," Dzwik said. "This is something I will tell my kids about, my grandkids. Something I have been working for a long time. Nice to finally get it."
Dzwik passed the milestone of 1,000 career points last year a junior and knew he had a chance to put his name on the top of career scoring list this season if he averaged around 20 points per game, which he has done.
"I realized last year I was close enough to get it," Dzwik said. "It's something I have always had in my mind, going back to when I first started playing. I have always felt I could play up there as well as anyone who has ever gone to St. Philip. It feels good to finally get it."
The four-year starter for St. Philip is a returning all-city and all-league player for the Tigers and the leading scorer on this year's team. He has been joined on the roster the last several years with his triplet brothers Carter Dzwik and Lincoln Dzwik.
"This is a great accomplishment, he deserves it," St. Philip head coach Mike Kimber said. "He has spent hours in the gym, after school, after practice on the weekend, calling me to let him in to get some shots up. He deserves this because of all the work he has put into it. It speaks volumes about his work ethic."
