Soren Wærenskjold sprints to the finish to claim Stage 11 of Tour de France

Stage 11 of the 2026 Tour de France unfolded as a classic flat transition stage, spanning 161.3 kilometers (approximately 100.2 miles) from Vichy to Nevers. Designed with sprinters in mind, the route offered little elevation, and Norwegian rider Soren Wærenskjold made the most of this opportunity, unleashing a powerful sprint in the final meters to seize his first stage victory.

Despite its reputation as a sprinter-friendly stage, Stage 11 included a brief challenge in the form of a Category 4 climb at Côte de Billonnière, modest in comparison to the grueling mountain battle witnessed in Stage 10, which was dominated by four-time Tour champion Tadej Pogacar.

Early in the day, a determined breakaway group, comprising Anthon Charmig, Mathis Le Berre, Nelson Oliveira, and Julian Alaphilippe, escaped the peloton in Moulins. The quartet worked to maintain their lead for much of the stage, staying clear until the final five kilometers. However, the relentless chase by the sprinters’ teams reeled them in, setting up a sprint in which Wærenskjold powered to the front to take the win.
