Softball: Lady Pirates lock down EIAC title

Via a sweep of the Lady Spartans of Connersville Thursday, the Lady Pirates claimed the EIAC regular season championship with a 12-1 record. Greensburg improves to 17-3 overall.

In the opening game against Connersville, Greensburg rallied for a 2-1 victory.

Connersville's Camryn Fox hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Lady Spartans on top 1-0.

Greensburg answered in the bottom of the sixth inning. Tinley Klene blasted a home run to center field to drive in Aubrie Barnes-Pettit and put Greensburg in front 2-1. Harper Adams closed out the top of the seventh inning with two strike outs and a ground out to seal the win.

Adams pitched 7.0 innings, allowing one earned run on two hits while striking out 13.

At the plate, Greensburg had five hits. Klene had a home run and two RBIs. Barnes-Pettit added a single and double. Adams and Makayla Kieffer both had a single.

In the second game, Greensburg doubled up Connersville 6-3.

Connersville led 2-0 through three innings, but Greensburg was able to rally and knot the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning. An RBI ground out by Kirkley Lowe got the Lady Pirates on the board in the fourth inning. In the fifth inning, Klene reached on a Connersville error allowing Layla Murray and Kieffer to score.

In the top of the eighth inning, Greensburg plated three runs and held on for the 6-3 victory. Addyson Dolan doubled to center field to drive in Emma Herbert and courtesy runner Alexis Dolan. Barnes-Pettit followed with a single to score Addyson Dolan and make the final margin 6-3.

Offensively for Greensburg. Addyson Dolan doubled and drove in two runs. Herbert added a double. Barnes-Pettit finished with two singles and an RBI. Lowe added an RBI. Adams, Klene, Kamryn Haas and Murray all had a single.

Adams pitched eight innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out 11.

North 7, South 2

The Lady Chargers hosted South Decatur in a rain make-up game Thursday. North Decatur scored three runs in the second and sixth innings en route to a 7-2 victory.

South got on the board in the top of the first inning when Lilly Murray walked and eventually scored on Riley Benge's single.

North answered with a run in the bottom of the first. Brooklyn White's single scored Madison Rohls to tie the game at 1-1.

In the bottom of the second inning, Carmen Thackery reached on an error to drive in a run. Kendall Hostkoetter followed with a 2-run single to score Thackery and Brynlee Green to make it 4-1.

South scored one run in the fifth inning. Murray's ground out allowed Lyndsey Shireman to score and cut the deficit to 4-2.

North added three insurance runs in the sixth inning. Hostkoetter was hit by a pitch to force in a run. White reached on another South error, allowing Thackery and Haylee Schoettmer to score for the final of 7-2.

White pitched 7.0 innings for North, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out five. Riley Benge pitched 6.0 innings for South, allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks (seven hit by pitch) while striking out six.

White had two singles at the plate for North and Hostkoetter added a single.

For South, Raegan Benge had a double. Riley Benge added two singles and an RBI. Murray had the other RBI. Dalilah Martin, Carly Shook, Delaney Caplinger and Shireman all had a single.

South Dearborn 8, Batesville 7

Visiting Batesville held a 7-5 lead heading to the sixth inning, but South Dearborn scored a run in the sixth and two in the seventh to rally for the 8-7 victory.

Batesville's Grace Copley pitched 6.2 innings, allowing five earned runs on four hits and 13 walks while striking out nine.

At the plate for Batesville, Lexiyne Harris had a double and two RBIs. Copley finished with a pair of singles and two RBIs. Cora Roth tallied three singles and an RBI. Hailey Hundley and Caitlyn Fox both had a single.

Rushville vs. Franklin County

Thursday, the Lady Lions earned a split with EIAC foe Franklin County.

In the first game, Rushville shut out the Lady Wildcats 2-0.

Rushville scored a run in the first inning as Charli Marcum's ground out scored Althea Tellas.

In the fourth inning, Macy Blevins scored on a passed ball.

Rushville had eight singles in the game. Makenna Ripberger and Blevins both had two singles. Tellas, Ella Bowles, Becca Tabeling and Kiara Flannery all had a single.

Tellas pitched 7.0 innings for Rushville, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out four.

In the second game, Franklin County posted a 7-3 victory. The Lady Wildcats scored sixth run in the seventh inning to get the win.

Tabeling pitched 6.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three. Tellas pitched 1.0 inning, allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out one.

Haylie Tucker led the Rushville offense with two singles. Tellas added a single and RBI. Bowles, Marcum and Blevins added one single each.

Rushville sweeps South Dearborn

The Lady Lions ended the regular season with a sweep of South Dearborn.

In the first game, Rushville knocked off the Lady Knights 15-6.

Offensively for Rushville, Ella Bowles was 4-for-5 at the plate with a double, three singles and three runs scored. Haylie Tucker went 3-for-4 with three singles and two RBIs. Charli Marcum finished with two singles, a double and three RBIs. Althea Tellas added a triple, two singles and one RBI. Becca Tabeling tallied three singles and one RBI.

Tellas picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Lions.

Rushville won the second game 18-3.

Tabeling was the winning pitcher for the Lady Lions.

At the plate, Tabeling was a perfect 4-for-4 with a pair of singles, two doubles and 5 RBIs. Bowles finished with three singles. Nell Davis added a double, single and one RBI. Tellas had two singles and one RBI.
