Greensburg's sweep of Connersville Thursday closed out the EIAC portion of the regular season and gave the Pirates a share of the EIAC championship.

Both Greensburg and East Central finished 12-2 in the EIAC.

The Pirates won the opener 1-0 against the Spartans. Luke Hoeing scattered three hits in 7.0 innings with one walk and four strike outs.

At the plate, Ethan Smith had a pair of singles. Hoeing, Ethan Bishop, Patrick Robbins and Colt McCalvin all had a single.

The Pirates took Game 2 by the final of 5-3.

Greensburg got on the board in the third inning on a Robbins single to center field to score Hayden Ramsey. Connersville answered with a run in the bottom of the inning.

In the fourth inning, Greensburg's Logan Meyer singled to right field to score Hoeing. Chase Walsman followed with a sacrifice fly to score Ayden Sefton and extend Greensburg's lead to 3-1.

The Pirates pushed the lead to 5-1 in the fifth inning. Bishop's singled to score McCalvin. Hoeing's ground out allowed Robbins to score the fifth Pirate run.

Connersville scored two in the sixth inning to make the final 5-3.

Greensburg had 10 hits in the game. Ethan Smith finished with a single and a double. Meyer tallied two singles and one RBI. McCalvin had a double. Walsman, Robbins, Bishop and Hoeing all had a single and one RBI.

Jacob Duerstock pitched 6.0 innings for Greensburg, allowing two earned runs on five hits and five walks while striking out six. Smith pitched 1.0 inning, allowing one walk while striking out three.

South Decatur 10, North Decatur 2

South Decatur remains atop the MHC baseball standing with a 10-1 mark after the Cougars knocked off visiting North Decatur 10-2.

South scored four runs in the first inning. Drake Scaggs drew a walk to force in Carter Tull with the first run. JP Scudder's single to center field scored Cayden Drake and Grady Scudder. A North error allowed JP Scudder to score and make it 4-0.

South added a pair of runs in the second inning. JP Scudder's single to left scored Drake and Grady Scudder and push the lead to 6-0.

The Cougars scored two more runs in the third. Karson Templeton lined a single to right field to bring in Brody Bolton. Templeton eventually scored on a North error.

North got a run in the fourth inning as Tyler Dean doubled to score Corbin Thackery. The Chargers cut the deficit to 8-2 in the fifth inning when Kipton Ruf reached on an error and Grayson Downey came in to score.

South's final two runs came in the sixth inning. JP Scudder's ground out scored Drake. Brayden Gerrian's sacrifice scored Scaggs to make the final 10-2.

Offensively for South, JP Scudder tallied three singles and five RBIs. Drake finished with a single and a double. Gerrian and Scaggs both had an RBI. Templeton singled and drove in one run. Carter Tull had the other single.

Corey Nugent pitched 7.0 innings for South, allowing one earned run on seven hits and five walks while striking out 11.

Dean pitched 2.2 innings for North, allowing four earned runs on five hits and six walks while striking out two. Wyatt Reisman pitched 3.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits while striking out two.

Dean had a single, double and RBI for North. Henry Kinker and Matthew Fields both had a double. Reisman, Downey and Thackery all had a single.

Batesville 9, South Dearborn 1

The Bulldogs avenged a loss to South Dearborn with a 9-1 victory Thursday.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning and added five runs in the sixth inning.

Batesville's offense pounded out 16 hits. Brayden Maple tallied two doubles and two RBIs. Noah Weigel added three singles and two RBIs. Ronan Post finished with a single, double and one RBI. Rylan Yaeger had two singles and one RBI. William Huber tallied three singles and one RBI. Tiago Batta had two singles and two RBIs. Jackson Peetz and Carson Meyer both had a single.

Meyer pitched 5.0 innings, allowing one earned run on five hits and one walk while striking out six. Post pitched 2.0 innings, allowing one walk while striking out two.

Rushville vs. Franklin County

The Lions and Wildcats played two games Thursday with Franklin County getting the sweep.

In the opener, Franklin County won 5-0.

Franklin County's Blake Stephenson gave up just one hits to Rushville, a single off the bat of Carter Woolf.

Woolf pitched 6.2 innings for Rushville, allowing three earned runs on nine hits and five walks while striking out four. Casey Thompson allowed one hit and struck out one.

In the second game, the Wildcats held off the Lions 6-5. Trailing by two entering the seventh inning, the Lions got a run in the seventh, but Franklin County did not allow any more runs to seal the win.

Rushville finished with nine hits. Trent Smith finished with a pair of singles and two RBIs. Abel Coon and Grant Cameron both added two singles. Josh Campbell had the other RBI. Woolf, Hunter Cowan and Josh Cowan added one single each.
