The softball sectional championship at Franklin County came down to a pair of good teams with solid pitching and defense. With a run in the fifth inning and an insurance run in the sixth inning, Jennings County held off Greensburg 2-1 to win the sectional title.
Greensburg's Harper Adams and Jennings County's Arian Day kept the opposing offenses scoreless through four innings.
In the top of the fifth inning, Jennings County's Brylee Combs scored on a double to left field by Marlee Elston.
In the top of the sixth inning, Day singled to left field to score Maycie Ward and give the Lady Panthers a 2-0 lead.
Greensburg got on the board in the home-half of the sixth inning. Tinley Klene drove a home run through the blowing win over the left field fence to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Both pitchers retired the opponents in order in the seventh as Jennings County advanced to the regional.
In the circle, Day pitched 7.0 innings for Jennings County, allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out six. Greensburg's Adams pitched 7.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits while striking out eight.
Offensively in addition to Klene's home run for Greensburg, Adams, Kamryn Haas and Layla Murray all had a single in the game.
North Decatur 18, Waldron 0
The Lady Chargers advanced to the sectional title game with an 18-0 victory against Waldron in the first semifinal game. Knightstown defeated host Tri 3-2 in the other semifinal.
North scored five runs in the first inning, four runs in the second inning and nine runs in the third inning en route to the victory.
Brooklyn White pitched 5.0 innings, allowing no hits with seven strikeouts.
Offensively, the Lady Chargers had six extra base hits. Kendall Hostkoetter had a home run, double and team-high five RBIs. Macie Leake tallied two singles, a double and four RBIs. White finished with a pair of singles and three RBIs.
MacKenzie Schneider pounded two doubles and drove in two runs. Carmen Thackery had a single and double. Ella Wilson finished with a single and RBI. Haylee Schoettmer had the other RBI for the Lady Chargers.
Knightstown's Lanee Swindell hit a home run to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the Lady Panthers on top 3-2 and advance Knightstown to the sectional title game scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
Knightstown 7, South Decatur 1
South Decatur scored one run in the top of the first inning and then Knightstown shut out the Lady Cougars for six innings to advance in the sectional with the 7-1 win.
In the top of the first inning, South's Dalilah Martin walked and stole second base. With two outs, Riley Benge doubled to score Martin.
Knightstown answered with two runs in the bottom of the first.
The Lady Cougars threatened in the top of the second inning. With one out, Delaney Caplinger singled to left field. Samantha Cole followed with a double to left field as Caplinger went to third base. Knightstown retired the next two batters to end the threat.
The Lady Panthers sealed the win with one run in the second inning, third inning and fourth inning before scoring two runs in the sixth inning.
