Is Kayvon Thibodeaux a player that the New England Patriots stand to gain from trading for in 2026?

According to Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport, the Patriots’ trading a conditional 2027 third-round pick to the New York Giants in exchange for Thibodeaux is a trade that has the potential to impact next season’s playoff race.

“For the opportunity to bolster the pass rush, New England might as well mortgage the future a little bit more,” Davenport said. “And while Thibodeaux had a down 2025, we are taking about a 25-year-old former top-five pick with an 11.5-sack season on his NFL resume.”

Thibodeaux has battled with multiple injuries over the course of the last two seasons. However, he still possesses the skill set to experience a career revitalization in New England. The Patriots’ winning culture is the ideal place to get the most out of the star edge rusher and enable him to return to producing double-digit sacks on a yearly basis.

The team also clearly has a need with all of the lingering questions at edge rusher. Harold Landry III was banged up for a significant stretch in 2025, and second-round draft pick Gabe Jacas has yet to sign his rookie contract. It was down to Dre'Mont Jones, Elijah Ponder, Bradyn Swinson and Jesse Luketa in the spring practices.

Thibodeaux being added to that mix would help create a much-needed safety net on the edge.
