Insider Shares Patriots Mock Trade To Acquire Kayvon Thibodeaux originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New England Patriots have been aggressive this offseason, but they may not be done.
Although New England has been widely expected to land A.J. Brown after June 1, the Patriots still could use some help on defense. Ahead of training camp, ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano shared a mock trade that sees the Patriots dealing a 2027 fifth-round pick to the New York Giants for Kayvon Thibodeaux.
“The Patriots still need edge help, have an extra fifth-rounder from the Garrett Bradbury trade and likely won't have a ton of valuable draft capital after the A.J. Brown deal,” Graziano wrote. “Former Giants defensive coordinator Shane Bowen is now on Mike Vrabel's defensive staff in New England, though things didn't go great in New York and I don't know whether that makes it more or less likely they'd be interested in Thibodeaux.”
Thibodeaux’s name has come up in trade rumors, and he could very well be dealt before the start of the season, especially after the Giants drafted Abdul Carter and Arvell Reese in back-to-back years.
The Giants selected Thibodeaux fifth overall in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Oregon, but the pass rusher has struggled to live up to the hype, so a change of scenery could be needed.
Thibodeaux recorded just 25 tackles and 2.5 sacks last season, while his best year came in 2023 when he recorded 50 tackles and 11.5 sacks, along with three forced fumbles.
