Stephen Decatur's historic baseball season ended in the MPSSAA Class 3A Baseball State Championship Game with a 2-1 loss to the Sherwood Warriors on Monday, May 25.
The Decatur Seahawks were undefeated coming into Monday's state title game at Ripken Stadium, and were searching for their first ever baseball state title to end their 2026 campaign. But they faced a tall task, coming up against a Sherwood team that had won four state championships in the last five seasons.
Decatur got out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring in the first inning courtesy of an RBI by Brandon Nadeau. Decatur pitcher Kyle Springle got the start for the Seahawks and shut Sherwood out in the first three innings.
The fourth inning is where things would change, as Sherwood tied the game on an infield single, and then took the lead when the runner on base scored after a wild pitch. They finished the inning with a 2-1 lead, and that would be the game's final score.
Decatur finished the 2026 season having only lost one game, while also winning another Bayside Championship, a regional title, and advancing to its first-ever baseball state title game.
