THORNVILLE — Sheridan girls basketball picked the perfect time to plays its best game of the season.

The Generals yielded only two first-quarter shot attempts, hit nine 3-pointers and built an 18-point halftime lead in a 47-19 win against visiting Philo in a battle of Muskingum Valley League co-leaders on Jan. 28 at Glen Hursey Gymnasium.

Both teams entered hotter than a blast furnace in league play, with Sheridan winning seven straight and Philo six. The Generals (15-3, 10-2 MVL-Big School) ruled the rematch between the teams, as sophomore Nora Cooperrider and senior Mylie Forgrave combined for seven 3s and 30 points.

Four of their 3s came in the second quarter, as Sheridan outscored the Electrics (11-7, 8-3) , 15-5, to open up a 27-9 halftime lead and extended it to 42-14 after the third. No Philo player scored more than four points.

Forgrave finished with 16 points, Nora Cooperrider 14 and Megan Turnes, while 5-foor-1 Ivy Daly hauled in 10 rebounds. Sheridan was also 10-of-15 at the line.

New Lex 40, Crooksville 33: Chloe Dick's 20 points accounted for half of the Panthers' offense in an MVL-Small School win in McLuney.

Dick hit two 3s and also 6 of 7 free throws as New Lex (13-6, 9-3) built leads to 20-18 at the half and 34-25 entering the fourth. Makenzy McCoy added 10 points as she and Dick combined for 10-of-11 free-throw shooting.

Lexi Van Meter scored 19 points and Mylee Davis seven for Crooksville (4-11, 2-8).

Boys Basketball​


Rosecrans 65, Miller 61: Kohen Harris scored 11 of his career-high 23 points in the pivotal fourth quarter, when the Bishops used a full-court press to ignite a 15-0 run that keyed a Mid-State League-Cardinal Division road win at Walt Harrop Gymnasium.

Harris, who had six 3s, also had a career-high seven assists and three steals. Brody Boothe added 14 points with four 3s and Tyler Bernett 13 with six rebounds and five blocks, as Rosecrans (9-5, 7-1 MSL-Cardinal) was 22-of-41 from the floor — 12-of-24 from behind the arc.

Bryce Dorsey fired in 17 of his game-high 27 points in the first half for the Falcons (2-12, 1-8), who led, 46-36, after three quarters.
