Shedeur Sanders spoke to the Cleveland media following Tuesday's opening practice of the Browns' minicamp and sent them a strong message.
"We need y'all to have a new vibe, a new energy," Sanders said to the assembled media.
With a new coaching staff and likely a new starting quarterback, Sanders is preaching a new attitude for the team and for the media. In fairness to the Cleveland media, there has not been much to cover from a positive angle in recent seasons, but Sanders has a point. He wants his team to be given a fair shot without any preconceived notions, which seems like a win-win for both parties. The media would get more insightful answers from players, and the players would be seen in a more positive light.
Ultimately, it boils down to wins on the field, but Sanders seems to be truly trying to change the culture of Cleveland football, and he realizes that it starts with how the team is portrayed.
Sanders enters his second season in the NFL and is the Browns' presumptive starting quarterback going into offseason practices. He finished his rookie year with 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, completing just 56% of his passes. He went 3-4 in seven starts, leading the Browns to wins in the final two games of the year.
With the NFL draft going down on Thursday, it will be fascinating to see what the Browns do with the No. 6 overall pick. Do they help Sanders and the Browns' offense by selecting a wide receiver or an offensive lineman?
