Somehow, someway, former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel is back in the Cleveland headlines again. A video of Manziel bashing Cleveland resurfaced, and it caught fire amongst all of the media outlets in northeast Ohio.

We are here to discuss some of the follow-up from that blitz of conversation, a comparison between Manziel and Shedeur Sanders' first season in Cleveland.

There are some context clues that are important in this side-by-side comparison that is floating around social media and likely in and out of your group chats.

For one, the stats on Manziel's side are from his second and final season in the NFL, while Shedeur's are obviously from his rookie year. Regardless, it is no excuse for the comparison of truly horrific quarterback play.

Johnny Manziel and Shedeur Sanders' stats side by side are not a fun reality to look at for Browns fans.

Both Manziel and Sanders didn't necessarily put out good football, and Browns fans are stuck debating over who was worse.

I am firmly in the camp that young players, especially quarterbacks, are owed the opportunity to grow and develop. One of the fundamental differences between Manziel, who was the number 22 overall pick, and Sanders, who was the number 144 overall pick, is that Sanders actually, genuinely cares about getting better.

Whether you like him or not, are rooting for him or not, or are excited about him or not, one thing that simply cannot be argued is that he cares and he wants to be great. It's hard to fake work, and I am firmly in the camp that Sanders is trying to put his best foot forward.

I think that it would be totally unfair to do what many are doing in regard to Sanders, and that is immediately writing him off after one year. There were some bad things on tape, but there were also some good things that can be built upon.

This is not to say that Sanders is the next Peyton Manning, but this is to say that maybe it is completely and totally unfair to write him off. He is not Johnny Manziel, he is not worse than Johnny Manziel, and he had the potential to be the leader of this team.

Trust me, if you're a fan who wants to see the Cleveland Browns have a lot of success, a good Shedeur Sanders is the fastest way to finding it.
