See where USA TODAY ranked FSU's Mike Norvell among ACC head coaches

The ACC is filled with coaches in differing situations - some have as much job security as one can possibly have, while others are hoping 2026 won't be their last year in their respective city.

USA TODAY Sports Austin Curtwright recently ranked all 17 coaches from the conference, and here's what he had to say about Florida State's Mike Norvell, whom he ranked 13th in the conference.

Norvell is a tough coach to grade. He did lead the Seminoles to one of their best seasons in recent memory with a 13-1 record and an ACC title in 2023, but he has also led the program to a pair of wildly disappointing seasons, especially by Florida State standards the past two years. Florida State is 7-17 the last two seasons, including the worst season in program history in 2024 after going 2-10. His pair of double-digit win seasons made him a hot commodity on the open market and he even reportedly garnered interest for Alabama's opening after Nick Saban retired. Now, he's likely on the hot seat.

Indeed, Norvell has had a rollercoaster-like time at FSU. In 2020, he started 3-6, improving to 5-7 in 2021. In 2022, real progress was made when the team went 10-3 and won the Cheez-It Bowl. He followed up 2022 with a run culminating in an ACC Championship and Orange Bowl appearance at 13-1 in 2023. Since 2024, though, it's been downhill with a disastrous 2-10 season followed by a 5-7 2025 season.

Overall, Norvell is 38-34 during his time in Tallahassee. It's unclear what the expectations are for him between the boosters and university administration, but one thing is for certain: he is going to need to perform at his best if Florida State is to have success on the field.
