As publications continue to roll out their annual predictions and rankings ahead of the 2026 season, one believes no coach is feeling more heat entering the season than FSU's Mike Norvell.

In its 2026 college football preview, Lindy's Sports placed Norvell atop its coaching hot seat list, placing the Florida State head coach in its highest-risk category and signaling just how important the upcoming season could be for the future direction of the program.

Few programs in college football enter the 2026 season facing as many questions as Florida State. Just three years removed from an undefeated regular season, an ACC championship, and a College Football Playoff controversy that dominated national headlines, the Seminoles find themselves in a much different position heading into the fall. Consecutive disappointing seasons have fueled skepticism around the program, while mounting expectations have placed additional pressure on Norvell and his staff.

Lindy's noted that after the Seminoles completed their perfect regular season in 2023, the program has won just three of its last 16 ACC games. The publication also cited Florida State's broader financial situation, suggesting that circumstances within the athletic department may have complicated any potential coaching change discussions during the previous cycle.

The pressure entering 2026 is undeniable. Florida State has invested in roster additions through high school recruiting and the transfer portal while looking to re-establish itself as a contender in the ACC. The Seminoles will also benefit from another offseason under defensive coordinator Tony White as the program attempts to reverse recent results.

Hot seat rankings are inherently subjective and often generate debate, but Lindy's decision to place Norvell atop its list underscores the scrutiny surrounding the Seminoles heading into the season. Whether Florida State can quickly return to contention will likely determine whether those conversations persist throughout the fall.

For now, one of college football's most recognized sports magazines has made its stance clear: few coaches enter the 2026 season facing more pressure than FSU's Mike Norvell.
