San Francisco (26-38) defeated the Cubs (33-31), 18-3, Friday at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.

The Giants, managed by former Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello, have won three consecutive games. San Francisco defeated Milwaukee, 12-9, Thursday at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During those two games, the Giants scored 30 runs.

According to Sarah Langs of MLB.com, the Giants scored 30-plus runs in a two-game span for the first time since a doubleheader on April 30, 1944.

Vitello served as the Vols' head coach from 2018-25 before being named San Francisco's manager prior to the 2026 season.

Former Tennessee baseball player Drew Gilbert started in center Field for the Giants on Friday. He went 1-for-2 and scored one run in the opener of a three-game series.

Game 2 between the Giants and Cubs is slated for 2 p.m. EDT on Saturday, and the series will conclude June 7 at 8:30 p.m. EDT.
