The Mets (6-4) defeated San Francisco (3-7), 5-2, Sunday at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California.
Giants' manager Tony Vitello was ejected from the contest after arguing a call when Jerar Encarnacion was ruled out for running outside the base path in the seventh inning with San Francisco leading, 2-1. It was Vitello's first ejection as a Major League Baseball manager.
Following Vitello's ejection, the Giants' bullpen allowed four unanswered runs to New York, who defeated San Francisco for a third consecutive day. The Mets scored five runs in the eighth inning.
Vitello served as Tennessee's head coach from 2018-25, compiling a 341–131 (125–85 SEC) record and winning a national championship in 2024. He was hired as the Giants’ manager on Oct. 22, 2025.
Vitello was ejected five times during his eight seasons as head coach of the Vols. He was last ejected in a game against Auburn last season.
San Francisco will next play Monday versus Philadelphia (5-4). First pitch for the contest between the Giants and Phillies is slated for 9:45 p.m. EDT at Oracle Park.
