San Francisco Radio Host Apology To Boston Fans, 'You Were Right' About Rafael Devers originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Boston Red Sox traded Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in a stunning blockbuster deal on June 15, 2025.
None of the players that Boston received came to fruition in a Red Sox uniform, but they were able to successfully offload more than $250 million remaining on Devers' massive contract.
After the deal, Boston turned around their season and earned a playoff berth. San Francisco, conversely, finished the year 81-81 and missed out on the postseason.
Fast forward to this season, the Red Sox and the Giants are tied for the fewest wins in Major League Baseball, and San Francisco's fans are growing tired of Devers' antics.
Bay Area radio host Mark Willard issued an apology to Bostonians on Monday.
"I want to apologize to the city of Boston," Willard said. "You were right. You said it when it happened...I can't tell you how many reached out to me, back when this happened, and they went, 'Wait till you see this.'
"To make it even worse, now we're seeing how he conducts himself, and he's not really raking."
Devers has played more games than anyone on the Giants' roster. His 97 strikeouts are the most on the team by a wide margin. He is batting .238 with an OPS of .735, which are both middle of the pack in his lineup. His 0.6 WAR is unimpressive to say the least.
"The trickle-down effect has been obvious from the moment he arrived," Willard continued. "Miss me with the (coincidence) of their record since he arrived and what it was before.
"Am I blaming it all on him? Of course not, that would be ludicrous... But we're talking Raffy Devers because Raffy Devers was embarrassing yesterday. The whole weekend was embarrassing."
