Ex-Red Sox Star Rafael Devers Shows Immaturity In Embarrassing Moment, Refuses To Leave Giants Game originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Former Boston Red Sox star Rafael Devers has had a largely disappointing first full season with the San Francisco Giants.
It was reported in April that Devers was avoiding the media and now, with a career-worst .238 batting average through 77 games, the Giants trading the first baseman/designated hitter just one year after acquiring him from the Red Sox could be "a possibility."
San Francisco was swept by the Miami Marlins over the weekend, with Devers going hitless over the final two contests, and the three-time All-Star ended the three-game series in embarrassing fashion.
With the Giants trailing 2-1, Devers drew a leadoff walk to begin the top of the ninth on Sunday and was called on for a pinch-runner.
Devers (with no stolen base attempts through the first half of the year) was substituted for Jonah Cox, who already has two thefts in just 15 contests, but didn't exit the field without a fight.
"Rafael Devers didn't want to be removed for a pinch runner after a leadoff walk to start the ninth," the SF Giants on NBCS account posted on X.

Many baseball fans can appreciate a player's desire to stay in the game when being taken out, but Devers' actions on Sunday were bordering on immature.
