Penfield 80, Fairport 58

Penfield led 14-11 after the first eight minutes. The Patriots then put together a 29-point second quarter while holding Fairport to just 14 points to take a 43-25 lead at the break.

The Patriots controlled it from there. Halfway through the third quarter, Johnson threw down a dunk off an alley-oop from Jackson Green to give the Patriots a 26-point lead. In the fourth quarter, McCarthy slammed one to further extend Penfield’s lead and bring Fairport’s perfect season to an end.

Next to Johnson and McCarthy, Green had 17 points. Ryan Savino added 12, and Aaron Hardaway tallied 11.

Mendon and Sutherland entered this game with a combined record of 33-1, with the Vikings’ lone loss coming to the Knights earlier in the season.

Round two went differently, however, as the Mendon boys defended their home court to hand Sutherland its first loss of the season.

Mendon trailed late in the first half, before a 7-0 run gave them a five-point lead heading into the locker room.

That momentum carried over into the second half as Trevor Nally and Jack Nally hit back-to-back three-pointers to open the third quarter.

Sutherland was able to crawl back most of the way, cutting the deficit to just six at one point in the fourth quarter, but the Mendon offense picked apart their press for easy layups to close out the game.

Cole Halpin led Mendon with 17 points. Amari Coleman followed with 16. Joshua Shadders finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Zach Neiderer and Sam Byrne each scored 19 points.
