Girls Basketball
Hilton 57, Fairport 43
A 14-0 run to open the second half helped Fairport jump ahead 13 points in the third quarter, which they held on to for their 13th win of the season.
Maddie Murphy was the Cadets’ leading scorer with 18 points and five assists. Jayleigh Esposito followed with 12 points, all coming from behind the arc.
For Fairport, Samara Rizzo finished with 12 points.
Hilton (13-4) will next host Churchville-Chili on Tuesday, February 10th. Fairport (12-5) will host Rush-Henrietta on the same night.
Greece Athena/Odyssey 50, Greece Arcadia/Olympia 47
Much like the first meeting less than one month ago, the battle for Greece was decided by just a few points. Unlike that first game, it was Greece Athena/Odyssey who came out on top in the rematch.
The Thunder led by as many as nine points in the third quarter before a 15-3 run by the Lightning to open the fourth gave them a three-point lead.
With 13 seconds left in the game, Athena/Odyssey trailed by one point. A Cara Elrod floater followed by a Bianca White steal helped the Thunder secure the win.
White finished with a game-high 20 points, including the final two foul shots. Elrod followed with 13 points.
Ja’Nyah Reaves scored 18 points for Greece Arcadia/Olympia.
Greece Athena/Odyssey (6-11) will next host Penfield on Tuesday, February 10th. Greece Arcadia/Olympia (3-14) will travel to Gates Chili on Monday, February 9th.
Aquinas 80, Mercy 42
Aquinas picked up its fourth win in a row by taking down Mercy at home.
Loren Green dropped a game-high 24 points to lead the way for the Li’l Irish. AJ Orr came away with 17 points, and Jade Harvey added 16.
Emerson Wandtke and Laura Kosten each had 16 points for Mercy.
Aquinas (7-8) will travel to St. Mary’s on Tuesday, February 10. Mercy (9-7) will host Wilson/Early College on the same evening.
Victor 59, Brighton 31
Victor picked up its third victory in a row with a win over Brighton.
The Blue Devils dominated from the start, taking a 30-14 lead into the half. After the third, Victor extended the lead to 41-16 and stayed in front until the final buzzer.
Maddie Lennon had 13 points to lead Victor. Grace Janczak added 11.
Anna Miller paced Brighton with 11 points.
Victor (9-6) will host Spencerport on Tuesday, February 10. Brighton (4-13) will travel to Thomas on the same evening.
Boys Basketball
East Rochester 69, Lyons 68 (OT)
A buzzer-beating layup helped the East Rochester Bombers complete the second-half comeback and defend their home court in style.
The Bombers trailed 45-38 at halftime, but with just one minute left in regulation, Ray’Davion Allen hit a floater to tie the game at 65 and send it to overtime.
After three minutes and 58 seconds of overtime, East Rochester trailed 67-68 with one final chance to win. From the opposite baseline, Noah Wollschleger threw a deep pass to Allen, who caught the ball off a deflection and layed it in as time expired for the win.
Allen was one of three East Rochester players in double figures, with 19 points. Judah Tanner led the way with 24, while Justice Allen had 16.
Jamire Johnson led Lyons with 21 points.
East Rochester (11-4) hosts Sodus on Thursday, February 12th. Lyons (15-2) next hosts Clyde-Savannah on Tuesday, February 10th.
Gates Chili 63, Irondequoit 57
25 points from Joey Vigerzi lifted Gates Chili to the win over Irondequoit.
Gates led 14-9 after the first quarter. Irondequoit came back and took the lead midway through the second, but Gates responded with an 11-0 run to push them to a 30-25 halftime lead.
The Spartans extended their lead to 51-37 with a quarter left to play. Irondequoit again rallied back, closing the gap to 53-50 with 3:30 to play. Despite the comeback, Gates maintained the lead and secured the win on the road.
Nemo Pye tallied 13 points for the Spartans. Tremier Lewis had six points to go along with 16 rebounds.
Roman Maldonado led Irondequoit with 13 points. Jayden Patterson added 12, while Tahmaj Pope earned 11.
Gates Chili (12-5) will travel to Webster Schroeder on Wednesday, February 11. Irondequoit (13-4) will travel to Rush-Henrietta on the same evening.
McQuaid 73, Aquinas 49
McQuaid took round two of the rivalry between the Knights and the Li’l Irish.
CJ Nicholson led McQuaid with 16 points. Gavin Vander Wal and Isaiah Jackson each tallied 12, while Andrew Gerenski brought in 10.
Carson Allen paced Aquinas with 21 points.
McQuaid (6-10) will host School of the Arts on Saturday, February 7. Aquinas (6-11) will host Rochester Prep on Tuesday, February 10.
Monroe 82, School of the Arts 58
School of the Arts was able to keep this game competitive in the first half, but an explosion from Monroe’s John Hardy helped the Red Jackets walk away with an easy victory.
Hardy finished with a whooping 34 points as Monroe won their second game in a row. Auden Thomas added 14 points, while Navareon Patton had 12.
Monroe (8-4) will look to keep the streak alive against Eugenio Maria DeHostos Charter on Monday, February 9th. School of the Arts (8-7) will travel to McQuaid on Saturday, February 7th.
