Tennessee Titans head coach Robert Saleh was a busy man at the annual AFC coaches breakfast at the NFL League Meeting, touching on multiple topics that should interest fans. During the session, Saleh did a masterful job working through the Titans' draft plans, without giving anything away.
Saleh first touched on the top of the draft, calling running back Jeremiyah Love and the three top edge rushers, Rueben Bain, David Bailey, and Arvell Reese, all game-changers, and went on to say the team is looking for players who can make an impact on any play.
At first glance, when coupled with Mike Borgonzi’s comments about taking the best player available fourth overall regardless of position, one would think that Love would be a primary target. But after some more questions, Saleh gave his current backfield of Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears a vote of confidence.
"Always, the best way to help a young quarterback is through the run game and defense. And I’ve said it before, I love our running back room," he said. "Shoot, just last year Tony Pollard dropped over 100 on us in San Francisco, so I think he’s a damn good football player. It’s a great one-two punch. They both run with physicality. They have versatility out of the backfield. So I believe in our backfield, and I think it’s a group that can help our team."
These comments could mean nothing or everything, especially at this point in the offseason, when anything and everything can be a smokescreen. After all, Saleh had similar comments on T’Vondre Sweat, and he was traded away just days later.
