The Arizona Cardinals will not get a second interview with former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. They never got a chance to, as after meeting with the Tennessee Titans on Monday, he will be their next head coach, per multiple reports.
He was set to have a second interview on Tuesday with the Cardinals if nothing came of the meeting with the Titans.
He takes over a Titans team that went 3-14 last season and has the fourth pick in the 2026 NFL draft. They also have a young quarterback in place in Cam Ward, the No. 1 pick in last year's draft.
Saleh is expected to also be the defensive playcaller. In his stint as head coach with the New York Jets from 2021-2024, he did not call the defense, something he will do differently. According to NFL Media's Mike Garafolo, not calling the defense "disconnected him from the game too much."
Arizona is still seeking a replacement for Jonathan Gannon, whom they let go after the team went 3-14 this past season.
Two guys they wanted to bring in for second interviews — Saleh and new Miami Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley — got hired before they could speak to them again.
They initially interviewed or requested to interview 13 candidates. Several are still in the playoffs:
We have not heard of anything about potential second interviews with any other candidate yet.
Other names that came up in the first round of interviews were:
Four teams have their new head coach.
Five teams other than the Cardinals still are looking:
