Wow. A long term legend here in the valley. The 70's and 80's were all about his leadership. Very worthy of remembrance.

RIP John. A large part of Suns history and my childhood memories of the Suns.

Behind who?

Just behind Cotton, in my opinion. In terms of longevity with the franchise, and running solid teams in two entirely different eras, Cotton is my choice for best coach in franchise history.

John MacLeod was the winningest coach in Suns history and the longest tenured.

Rest in Peace.

I remember brother and I going to his basketball clinic in Flagstaff when we were kids. Was a fun clinic and it introduced us to the knock out game.

I was amazed to hear he coached the suns for 14 years. Didnt know that.

Such a different era in terms of coaching longevity. These days a coach can get fired and I didn’t even know they were some team’s head coach.

MacLeod was the coach of the team when I was growing up and it seemed so strange to have him replaced.

I remember countless evening spent listing to 'Talk to the Suns' (Colangelo) and 'Talk to the Coach' (MacLeod) on KTAR.

I always conducted himself with class and dignitary, and coached some exciting team (My favorites being the 1977-78 & 1978-79 teams).

R.I.P. Coach MacLeod, thanks for so many great memories.

From a technical aspect, I didn't like John MacLeod establishing the Suns as a "finesse" team.

But I am sorry to hear about his passing at the age of 81.

Apparently, he has been fighting Alzheimer's disease for the past ten years.

My sincere condolences to his wife, children and family.

R.I.P. I seriously didn’t realize he was that old. Man time flies!

R.I.P. Coach. Thanks for the many, many great memories. One of the best Coaches the Suns ever had.
