Reading between the lines, it stands to reason that Billy Donovan didn’t want to be the coach of a team that was going to be going through a multiyear rebuild. That’s consistent with those who believe that Chris Paul’s days with the team could be numbered. Paul could be the first domino in what could be an eventful offseason in which the Thunder continue to sell off their assets. Paul's value is tremendously high, but he’s owed more than $40 million for each of the next two seasons. The acquiring team would also have to feel that he could be the final piece to their championship puzzle.
