The Brooklyn Nets made a surprising move on Monday when they reportedly acquired forward Julius Randle from the Minnesota Timberwolves effectively for the No. 33 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. While Brooklyn also had to give center Nic Claxton to the Chicago Bulls as part of the three-team trade, Randle is happy to be joining the Nets.
"Randle is excited to join the Nets and wants to be in Brooklyn, league sources told HoopsHype," HoopsHype's Michael Scotto wrote on Tuesday. Randle joins a Nets team that is coming off a 20-62 record in the 2025-26 season, a situation that was likely unfavorable to the veteran, but it seems that he is heading into his tenure with Brooklyn in a positive manner.
"After coming to New York amid a rebuilding situation, Randle evolved into a three-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA forward who helped the crosstown rival Knicks reach consecutive Eastern Conference Semifinals appearances before being dealt to Minnesota as part of the Karl-Anthony Towns trade," Scotto continued. "Randle is owed $33.33 million for the upcoming season and has a $35.80 million player option for the 2027-28 season."
Randle, 31, is coming off another solid season as he averaged 21.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game while shooting 48.1% from the field and 31.5% from behind the three-point line in 79 games (all starts) played for the Timberwolves. Despite how well he played for Minnesota as the second option to Anthony Edwards, Randle had an underwhelming performance in the playoffs as he averaged 16.0 points while shooting just 39.0% from the floor.
As of this writing, Randle joins a Brooklyn team with Michael Porter Jr. and Egor Demin in the fold along with whoever the Nets select with the No. 6 and No. 28 picks in the 2026 NBA Draft. Assuming that Randle enters the 2026-27 season on the roster, he will bring his unique blend of scoring and playmaking in a physical style of play that Nets fans should love to see.
