after the Cardinals got to play the Eagles at home because we won our division. This guy swore it was a done deal, as soon as the owners could get together a vote, the NFL would change the playoff structure, not even debatable. Here we are four years later and nothing has changed. And no one seems to complain that the Falcons have to go on the road to play the large market team in their home stadium. Apparently that's not a problem at all. What do you know?

And, it should be drawing even more outrage this season than three years ago because you also have the 12-4 Steelers visiting an 8-8 Denver team.

I remember a lot of bitching by Eagles fans, and some discussion on NFL Network, ESPN, but I don't remember any one guy in particular claiming it was a done deal.

I don't remember.

I could drop the name because I recall it, but I suspect it would be considered bad form. I never really saw him around here after he got done making the point that our playoff run was illegitimate and that we should rest assured the league would make sure it never happened again.

Well, technically, calling out another poster (by name or no) is bad form to rub it in...

You could bump one of their threads, it wouldn't be bad form. It's a legitimate topic of conversation.

Thanks for pointing it out, I'm going to double down though, to say I looked this guy up and his last post was in February 2009. Its clear to me his only interest really was to throw some cold water in our face during our Superbowl run. That said, I'm done calling anyone out. If a banning is in order, I'm ready. This is the first thread I've started in 2-3 years and it will probably be that long before I start another, so I hope you guys enjoyed it. I'd like to thank anyone that joined in. Go Cards.

+1.

The are still complaining about this.

Yet, has anyone noticed that the complaint has been the Steelers going to Denver, but there has not been a peep about the Falcons having to go to the Giants stadium. When the Cardinals were 9-7 they were the "worst playoff team ever", and it was a "joke" teams had to come to the desert.

But, it is OK if it is the Giants.

What sports writers want are the same "traditional" teams winning all the time. Why? I figured it out, it was so simple. It is because they are lazy, they don't want to find out who is who on the Denver Broncos. They know who is on the Giants, Steelers, and Packers by heart.

You want home field advantage then win your division. Thems are the rules, so that is what you have to do.

The Steelers don't like traveling ? Then beat Baltimore.

No one cares about the Falcons nationally.

I thought Seattle beating New Orleans last year in the playoffs would have really given this momentum. But it seems to have done the opposite.

Exactly. And of course some people complained about it, but its hard to feel sorry for New Orleans, when the glaring truth is that they just didn't take care of business. And I think most people come down on this side of it, when they hear sob story from the loser.

Two things come to mind for me. Number one, the system as it stands, every owner knows, no matter what, if they beat out the three other teams in their division, they get a home playoff game. Certainty. Going into a season, when every team has a record of 0-0, that's got to look good.

Number two, when you have a playoff game that's a David vs Goliath upset, that's a game, no one turns the channel on. Americans love the upset. NFL has that in common with NCAA basketball. Those games are fun to watch. The guy that just intended to check in on the New Orleans-Seattle game, thinking it would be a joke, like myself, ended up watching every minute of that game. It makes for great ratings.

I do remember this! It is only an issue when an East Coast team has to do it because of the whole East Coast ESPN thing.

in 2008 we had the 12-4 Colts visit the 8-8 Chargers and the Chargers won. Also, in 2008, the Eagles were mere % points ahead of us because they had a tie with the Bungles. If the Eagles lose that game then there wouldn't have been a conversation about it.
