The Boston Red Sox finally made the move during Thursday's off-day to call up the flamethrowing right-hander Tayron Guerrero.

Guerrero, 35, has extensive big league experience but has not pitched in Major League Baseball since 2019.

Despite his age and extensive MLB absence, the 6-foot-8 righty has not lost a step. He touts an overpowering 104 miles per hour fastball that he used in Triple-A Worcester to shut down opposing batters. Guerrero sported a 0.92 ERA in 15 appearances with the Woo Sox.

Boston has optioned right-handed relief pitcher Zack Kelly in a corresponding move, sources tell Chris Cotillo of MassLive.

Kelly did not make the Red Sox opening day roster, but was the first player called up in early April. He struggled in the early going, allowing four earned runs in 10.1 innings pitched in April.

Kelly posted a 3.00 ERA in the month of May, allowing just two earned runs in his seven outings combined. He struck out six, allowed seven hits and walked five batters.

Kelly has been a part of the Red Sox bullpen since he made his debut in 2022. He recorded a career high of 49 appearances during the 2024 season, but saw that number fall to 28 the following season. He was on pace for nearly 50 appearances this season.
