Red Sox Pitching Coach Andrew Bailey 'In Awe' Of Red Sox Rotation originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Boston Red Sox have won four straight games and seven of their last 10 thanks to an unsustainable streak from their starting pitching.
They have now strung together 11 quality starts for the first time since 1988 and, had it not been for sporadic bullpen struggles, have put their team in the position to win every game they've played since the road trip starting on June 19.
Pitching coach and former Red Sox bullpen arm Andrew Bailey is just as shocked by the rotation as we are.
"It's been an impressive stretch. I'm just in awe every single night watching these guys so consistently do it," Bailey said. "Yankees series: going no-hit into the fifth a bunch."
Sonny Gray was the third consecutive pitcher to no-hit the Yankees for half the game. But he carried it further than the two rookies, keeping New York hitless until the 8th inning in a start that Bailey called "special."
"(Carlos Narvaez) keeps joking with me, saying, 'One of these days we are going to finish it off,'" Bailey said. "We just keep teasing (throwing a no-hitter) for a while."
As a former player, Bailey told NESN that watching his players have success on the field is just as gratifying.
"Having success on the field for a pitching staff is just fruitful and fulfilling for me individually," Bailey said.
