Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas could soon begin a key part of his rehab.

Casas is dealing with a left abdominal strain, which has him on the 60-day injured list. The first baseman has been hampered by injuries in his career, as he appeared in just 29 games in 2025 and 63 games in 2024.

However, on Wednesday, Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy gave a positive injury update on Casas and revealed he could start swinging soon.

“He is approaching, I think as we get toward the end of the week, potentially starting to do some like light swinging,” Tracy said (h/t Christopher Smith). “So like it’s progressed. Obviously the knees okay. We’re just still doing rotational stuff for the side and I think he’s getting closer to maybe starting some like light swinging progression.”

Once Casas begins swinging, it’s unclear how long it will be until he’s ready to get into rehab games. But it’s a key step in Casas’ injury recovery, as he could be a welcome addition to the offense, which has struggled at times.

The first baseman struggled in 2025 due to injuries, but in 2023, when he appeared in 132 games, he hit .263 with 24 home runs and 65 RBIs, showing he can be an impact bat.

Boston selected Casas in the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft.
