Amid an MLB-worst 2-8 start to the season, the Boston Red Sox got more bad news on injured first baseman Triston Casas Tuesday afternoon.

"Casas tried to swing and had a setback in his ribs. He’ll get imaging. No word yet on Oviedo’s visit to Meister to check on his elbow," Alex Speier of The Boston Globe posted on Bluesky.

"Triston Casas tried swinging and it didn't go well. He'll get imagining done on the strain he has in the ribs area," Speier's colleague, Peter Abraham added on Bluesky.

Tuesday's update comes three days after it was reported that Casas had suffered a setback.

The 26-year-old had a big 2023 rookie season, finishing second on the team with 24 home runs, while leading the group in on-base percentage (.367) and OPS (.856).

Casas was limited to 63 games during the 2024 campaign though and suffered a season-ending torn left patellar tendon last May.
