Many Boston Red Sox fans are wondering how Triston Casas is doing amidst his recovery from a major injury. MassLive's Chris Cotillio has just provided an update on the first baseman.

"Casas won’t appear in a big league spring game before camp ends but is “working toward game action,” according to a source," Cotillo wrote on Sunday. "Casas, who is about 11 months into his rehab from a ruptured patellar tendon in his knee, is now at the point where he is running the bases and doing sliding drills. That represents an important final hurdle for Casas, who has been hitting and fielding all spring and homered in a back field game Saturday."

"Casas ... could either make his game debut in Fort Myers or play with an affiliate," Cotillo coninued. "He’s likely to need multiple weeks of game action in the minors before being considered for the major league mix. Players can rehab for 30 days but the Red Sox can give Casas additional time by optioning him to Triple-A, too."

Triston Casas on if he’s had moments of self doubt:

“No moments of self doubt, whatsoever. I’m completely confident in my abilities.”

He’ll be reevaluated in the first week of March. Needs to run bases and slide, then can talk about getting into games.

Casas was limited to 29 games last season before the aforementioned ruptured patellar tendon in early May ended his season after surgery. In 99 at-bats, Casas posted a .182 average, three home runs, and 11 RBI.

Across his four-year career through 2025, the 26-year-old slugger owns a .241 batting average with 45 home runs and 120 RBI in 251 games. He has delivered strong power displays during healthier stretches, most notably his rookie year.
