The Boston Red Soxannounced three roster moves prior to Monday's series opener against the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park, all involving left-handed pitchers.

The Red Sox are putting left-handed reliever Danny Coulombe on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 2, with cervical spasms. They are calling up left-handed pitcher Alec Gamboa from Triple-A Worcester to fill his spot.

Boston also transferred left-handed pitcher Patrick Sandoval from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

Coulombe last pitched for the Red Sox in Friday's 3-1 win over the Houston Astros, retiring two of the three batters he faced and allowing a hit. The 36-year-old veteran reliever has struggled in his first season with Boston, going 0-1 with a 5.63 ERA, a 5.02 FIP and a 1.50 WHIP in eight innings this year.

Gamboa, 29, is also in his season with the Red Sox organization. He's scuffled as a starter in Worcester with a 6.23 ERA over three starts, but he's shown some upside with 15 strikeouts in 13 innings. He's never pitched in the Major Leagues before.

Sandoval hasn't pitched since 2024 and is still rehabbing from internal brace surgery on his left elbow. He recently suffered a setback in late April during his minor league rehab assignment and has yet to resume throwing, making his return timeline unclear at the moment.
