Cardinals heard that we can't sign UDFAs this year so they decided to draft a couple instead.

He's not even rated by NFL.com and is the 37th ranked DT on Yahoo... This guy had UDFA written all over him.

I remember years ago when you criticized a late round DL pick saying he was a nobody. That guy turned into a key cog on our Super Bowl run.

His name was Antonio Smith. :)

From his Pro Day:

Combine snub DT David Carter clocked in at 4.98, continuing the ascension up boards that began with a strong East-West Shrine Game week. Carter measured in at 6-4 3/8, 293 lbs. and performed the rest of the drills in a manner commensurate with the mid-to-late round prospects at the Combine: 28.5 vert, 9'3" broad, 1.73 (10-yd split), 25 reps, 4.6 shuttle.

Porjected as a 3/4 DE.

I know I shrugged, but it was mostly because I couldn't find much on him. My Lindy's guide listed him as "Worth Watching," and said he had a good burst upfield, and was good vs. the run.

We had a need for a backup DE in our 3-4, and hopefully he can contribute in the rotation.

I remember reading good reports on him from the east-west shrine game.. was able to hold up to double teams well (and the were needed in 11 on 11s to slow the kid down)

Granted the quality at that game isn't the same as a senior bowl or anything, but for the 6th round.. why not?

How come cardinals never draft anyone from ASU! Lawrence Guy would've been a decent pick :(

Whatever its a late 6th round pick, if he doesn't work out big deal. At least its at a position we need depth pretty bad.

Sounds like a smart kid on the video and looks willing to do the work he has to.

Director's Honor Role at UCLA which means he had at least a 3.0 GPA. He went to Kaiser High in Fontana, CA which is solidly working class in a tough town. This guy is going to have no problems when Lott has them climbing Camelback.

I'm prejudiced because he's a fellow Bruin, but he might just surprise some people. I like it.
