Crawled Through 5 FB Fields
1. John Skelton---haven't given up on him. Disappointed in his play this year and the fact that he didn't carpe diem the opportunity. I am curious to know what he would look like with another coach in another system.
If I were coaching him---I would do the following (try not to laugh too hard!)---but I am serious (which I am sure makes it even more funny):
a. put a tinted visor on him---not only does his height hurt him in that DBs can get a clear look at him, but Skelton has big eyes---really big eyes---again this doesn't help.
b. drum into his head that when the pocket starts to collapse, run with the ball.
c. get him to start stepping into his throws and start snapping the ball---he's always trying to guide the ball---that has to stop---he has to start throwing the ball and throwing it with conviction.
d. get his mind right---this, imo, is how Whisenhunt and Miller have failed in---here is a guy who physically fears nothing, which is rare for a QB with a porous offensive line---BUT---here is a guy who fears the mental part---he fears making mistakes---and he fears making bad throws, which is why he tries to guide the ball.
e. faster release---what he needs to learn is to keep the ball directly behind his right earhole---the ball will come out cleaner and faster...he's really got to get in the habit of doing this.
f. greater intensity---he looks way too laid back---but then again so does Aaron Rodgers---but there are times when Rodgers really buckles down and the team feeds off of his intensity. Skelton needs to develop this side of his demeanor and he will be taken more seriously.
2. Kevin Kolb---should retire. He won back the respect he briefly lost. His injuries have been scary and they occurred on plays that didn't even look that bad when they happened. The concussions and then the torn and dislocated rib cage.
3. Ryan Lindley---again would very much like to see him with another coach. He had a great relationship with Brian Sipe---that's what he needs in the NFL, a coach who believes in him.
4. Kirk Cousins---I watched him very closely last week, I believe some of you did as well. Saw him step in and play well the week before. I like him---he's shifty and throws a very accurate and catchable ball. The Redskins need draft picks---if the Cardinals were to offer their 2nd rounder---the Redskins might be very tempted to make the trade. Having looked at all the draft prospects at QB at length---I would rank Cousins right up there in the top three.
5. Chase Daniel---very intrigued, obviously, with him.
6. Alex Smith---can't stand the guy for all the snarky comments he has made about the Cardinals---and I really don't think he would want to come to Arizona. But, if he did, he would have a big chip on his shoulder. Could be a good thing.
7. Ryan Fitzpatrick---might be on the way out of Buffalo. Have always liked him---and if he could elevate his game better in 4th quarters I think he could be very very good.
