What do you think of NC State's Jacoby Brissett as a QB BA can develop over the next couple of years? Keim's connection to NC State could put him on the radar.

if we are going to take "The next couple of years" to develop a QB I would spend the pick on Cardale Jones instead.

He definitely fits the BA model of a QB. Should be available in Round 4 or 5. My only concern is that he was a spread offense QB at NC State, how long if ever will it take to learn BA's offense.

Watching both play, I would much rather us take a chance on Brissett than Cardale.
his lack of experience may account for weakness in reading the field,.... but he does have something in the range of a 3.0 GPA so he aint stupid.
undefeated at a major college is a very good record...he handles pressure like it does not exist..... IMO he is much like a lower key Cam Newton. I would drop our second on him without hesitation.... and may even consider our first since it is so late...... but a stout defender would be preferred in the first.

What are the details of Matt Stafford's contract? I know BA and Stafford have a good relationship... Any way we can wring him away from Detroit given their fire sale of a franchise right now?

We need to get our QB of the future now and it is the best situation now. We have the coaches and the starter which are ideal for a young QB to develop under. I'm seeing the mock drafts people are showing. I realize the need for a pass rusher to take the next step but without a QB for the coming years, we are going to have to start in the basement again if we do not address this now... my first pick in the draft would be a QB, the process of ensuring our future starts now at the position!
To me it seems a pass rusher is a higher priority. You can do well in this league with an average to above-average guy at QB.

Well, Cutler is better than Stafford so I don't get this.
Matt Stafford..............27 years old
7 NFL seasons,....played in every game for the past 5 years
60.9% completions for 25976 yds 7.0 avg per completion
163 TD's vs 98 INT's
sacked 205 times
85.8 career QBR
Jay Cutler.............32 years old
10 NFL seasons........only played in every game 3 total seasons and has completed a season zero times in the past 5 years
62% Completions for 31408 yds...7.2 avg per completion
204 TD's Vs 141 INT's
sacked 285 times

based upon career average on field production Stafford will give you 3710 yds a season with 23.2 TD's and 14 picks.........
Cutler will give you 3140 yds with 20.4 TD's and 14.1 picks
statistically they are very close to the same player..... the biggest difference is that Stafford is 5 years younger,...which allows you to keep him longer,...and Stafford manages to complete seasons,.. play all 16 games....whereas Cutler for one reason or another cannot stay on the field.
assuming it takes a QB 2 seasons to really get our system,...we can teach Stafford and have three additional years of on field time with him knowing the system before he is even as old as Cutler is now.
clearly makes Stafford the better choice if we had an option.

Stafford is the prototypical QB in the mold of what BA wants for his system - strong cannon arm, ability to make 2nd/3rd reads, and is somewhat mobile for his size. He has been erratic the last few years given the changing OCs he's had and the system he is playing in which is privy to short slants, go-routes and check downs. You put him in this system and it's bombs away. Someone on this board posted a picture of Stafford and BA embracing after the game this year and maybe BA was whispering for him to come to a warmer destination.... One can dream I guess... Maybe we throw the Max at him when he hits FA instead of taking a chance on unknowns and focus our 1st rounders on Defense...
As for Cutler, just say no. He is a headcase and is the antithesis of tough. Remember when he went down mysteriously in our game and it was later diagnosed as missing man parts. Stafford has been known to take huge hits and was seen bleeding from his jersey/mouth after a stretch of games last year. Add to the fact that he is entering his prime years, and I think we know who to go with here...

I understand your concern about the QBOF, the years after Warner retired were more than brutal. Thing is we are a pass rusher away from getting to the SB. We have a window that has a couple of years before closing so let's go get that ring!!!
Plus I have faith in BASK to find our QBOTF while Carson and Co. brings us a SB ring or two.

I keep telling myself that Logan Thomas was not a serious attempt and more of a 'what the hell' selection with no regrets if it did not work out. I think the real deal is coming soon from this staff and we are going to know it when the guy is selected because they are not going to wait into the later rounds to get him... and with the window's so small I do not see a rookie pass rusher being the solution, but a stud free agent is going to acquired some way

I actually see both a FA and a rookie being drafted to bolster the pass rush.
Golden shows promise but so did Okafor. Riddick is an imposing physical presence that couldn't get on the field at all this year. Sign one and draft one in rd1 and then draft another front 7 pass rusher in rd 2 and what the hell take a flyer on another one later in the draft. SIMPLY HAVE TO FIX THE PASS RUSH.
I actually think the pass rush will be the big ticket item this off season. The have done it the last 2 years. Veldeer, Iputi, and now a pass rusher. I see them going this direction.

We need to accept that this team should just never draft a QB, history tells us that we have almost zero chance of landing a good one..... The best we can hope for, is talking Pittsburgh out of Big Ben in a year or two.

Then we are going to have to roll dice on someone with serious character issues because I do not see finding a real threat at number 29... another Golden or Okafor does not solve the problem, we have to move up to get the big and fast game changer or as you allude get a free agent
