PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Richwoods saved its best for last.
The Knights outscored Notre Dame 26-9 in the fourth quarter to beat the Irish 55-44 in a girls basketball showdown for first place in the Big 12 Conference on Friday. The win gives Richwoods sole possession of first in the league.
Kayla Herron scored 24 and Keniya Todd added 15 for Richwoods (18-4, 7-0), which trailed by six after three quarters at a loud PND gym affectionately known as The Kitchen. Lexi Baer scored 14 points for Notre Dame (19-5, 6-1), which had a 28-19 lead at halftime.
Notre Dame, ranked eighth in the class 3A state poll, hosts No. 1 Washington on Saturday.
Boys basketball winners Friday included Peoria High, Normal Community, Richwoods, Manual, East Peoria, Morton, Metamora, Limestone, Tremont, Lexington, Peoria Christian, Lewistown and Illini Bluffs.
