OTTUMWA — There wasn't much time to sit and relax in the Ottumwa softball dugout on Monday night.

After all, any player could have had their name called at any point by head coach Frank Huston.

By the time Monday's doubleheader with Mason City was over, 17 different Bulldog players had taken part in a pair of wins. Of the 17 players that got on the field, 13 crossed home plate at least once with 12 scoring at least one run in Ottumwa's 22-0 win in game two that followed a 9-1 win in game one highlighted by five hitless innings pitched by Adeline Thompson.

"You've got your starting rotations for one or two games, but the other people have roles and need to be ready," Huston said. "There have been seasons where somebody might get bumped up or somebody slumps. Everyone has to be ready to perform. This gave them the opportunity. They all practice together every day and they've been around some games, but nothing like being able to stand in there and get a couple at-bats."

Ottumwa, winners of three straight games after splitting a pair of games over the weekend at the West Des Moines Valley Classic, are slated to return to the diamond for an Iowa Alliance Conference south division doubleheader at Des Moines East should weather allow with rain in the forecast for Wednesday night. The Bulldogs are also set to host a varsity doubleheader on Thursday at Oskaloosa before traveling to Waterloo East on Friday to make up a doubleheader that was rained out on June 4 with two more games on Saturday in Waukee at the Jack North Tournament.

"We're wall to wall with games now, but we're prepared," Huston said. "We've got some depth now. We'll be getting on and off the bus and ready to play."
