The Lewis Cass softball team again hit the ball well Tuesday at the Class 2A Rochester Sectional.
The Kings had 11 hits but only managed to score two runs in a 5-2 loss to Oak Hill in a semifinal game.
The Kings matched the Golden Eagles’ 11 hits but a big stat was they had five errors to Oak Hill’s zero.
The Golden Eagles (17-8) advanced to face No. 7 Rochester for the sectional title Thursday. The Kings finish 10-13.
Amma Fitzhugh took the loss. The senior right-hander allowed five runs (two earned) on 11 hits and no walks, striking out four.
The Kings had an error on the first play of the game. The Golden Eagles scored two runs in the first on a squeeze bunt and an RBI infield single.
They added two more runs in the second on an RBI single and sacrifice fly to take a 4-0 lead.
Fitzhugh, Hannah Penn and Shay Dishner had three straight singles to lead off the third to get the Kings on the board. The Golden Eagles threw a runner out at home on one of the hits and then got a popup and ground out to get out of the inning.
The Kings had runners on second and third with two outs in the fifth when Maddie Lynch singled to left to make it 4-2. But the Golden Eagles threw out another runner at home for the third out.
Oak Hill added a run in the sixth on a two-out single by Becca Cardona, who was thrown out at second on a cutoff play for the third out.
Penn had a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh for the Kings. But a ground out ended their season.
Penn and Dishner both went 3-for-4 to lead the offense. Fitzhugh went 2-for-3. Kami Silcox had a double. Lynch and Ally Berry each added a single.
Pathie Speicher allowed two runs on 11 hits and one walk with three strikeouts in seven innings for Oak Hill.
PIONEER 4, TRI-COUNTY 2
Pioneer (14-10) knocked off Class 1A No. 4 Tri-County (20-5) in the first round of the North White Sectional.
The Panthers avenged a 10-4 loss to the Cavaliers on April 25 in Royal Center.
Lois Layer (12-4) went the distance in this one. The junior right-hander allowed two unearned runs on two hits and one walk, striking out five.
She helped her own cause with a single and RBI. Averi Layer had a double, single, RBI and two runs scored. Ava Ott had a single and two RBIs. Hallie Lebo had a single and run scored.
Grace Luck and Grace Tyler had the Cavs’ two hits.
Madilyn Nevitt (15-2) allowed four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings, striking out eight. Luck pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
EASTERN 5, LOGANSPORT 0
Eastern (16-2) swept Logansport (13-6) in five close matches at the Harrison Regional.
Jozlyn Howard lost 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Kaylynn Fillmore dropped a 6-1, 6-3 match at No. 2 singles and Maeda Bradbury lost 7-6 (3), 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Goldie Kitchell and Violet Pherson lost 7-5, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles and Taryn Shideler and Alivia Isaacs dropped a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 match at No. 2 doubles.
It was the final match for Fillmore, Bradbury, Kitchell and Pherson.
“Not the result we wanted, but each and every player gave their all this season and I couldn’t be more proud of them,” Logan coach Bryan Zehner said. “We are losing a great group of seniors who have been a staple of our tennis program for many years now and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors. We will get back to work this summer and I know we have plenty of good players who are ready to step up and fill in their shoes.”

Senior Avery Wegner placed seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.14 to lead Winamac.
Junior Sadie Popejoy placed ninth in the discus with a throw of 99 feet, 4 inches.
LOGANSPORT 144, TWIN LAKES 159, ROCHESTER 179, WINAMAC 197
Logansport won a sectional preview match at Dykeman Park Golf Course.
Graham Taylor and Tristin Schultz each shot a 1-under 33 to lead the Berries. Louis Rozzi and Evan Brandstatter each had a 39 and Eli Baldwin and Logan Lange each added a 42.
