The Pioneer boys golf team repeated as the champions of the Hoosier North Athletic Conference Saturday at the conference meet at Round Barn Golf Club in Rochester.

The Panthers shot a 333 to win by 23 shots. They were followed by North Miami (356), Triton (383), North Judson (384), Caston (395), Winamac (408), Oregon-Davis (431) and Culver (Inc.).

Pioneer junior Ivan Reyes was the medalist with a 5-over 77. He was followed by a top five all-conference team of Caston’s Owen Chapman (79), Pioneer’s Brady Price (83) and Micah Rans (85) and North Miami’s Zeph Reshkus (85).

Pioneer’s Dane Bowditch (88) earned a spot on the all-conference honorable mention team with a seventh-place finish overall.

WEST LAFAYETTE INVITE

Logansport shot a 322 to place eighth out of 18 teams at the event held at Purdue Ackerman-Allen Golf Course.

Graham Taylor shot a 1-over 73 to place fourth overall. He was followed by Louis Rozzi (78), Evan Brandstatter (83), Logan Lange (88) and Drew Brandstatter (96).

LOGAN SWEEPS CASS

Class 3A No. 2 Logansport swept past Cass in a doubleheader Saturday at Fincher Field. The Berries won a pair of five-inning games by scores of 15-0 and 10-0.

Brooklynn Hagerty and Jentry Strong combined on a perfect game in the opener for the Berries (24-1). Hagerty struck out eight of the nine batters she faced. Strong fanned three of the six she faced.

Hagerty and Aracyn Good each hit a home run for Logan. Evie Kitchel went 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Tatianna Jones had a triple, single and four RBIs. Gracie Risley had a double and two RBIs. Adrienne Scott and Bella Nicoles added a single and RBI apiece.

The Kings (9-12) did not pitch senior ace Amma Fitzhugh in either contest ahead of Monday’s sectional game against Manchester.

They had two hits in game two as Maddie Lynch had a double and Emily Baber added a single.

Strong and Risley combined on the shutout. Strong allowed two hits and one walk in three innings. Risley pitched two perfect frames with three strikeouts.

Kitchel homered in the win. Mya Hershberger went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Jones had a triple, single and two RBIs. Good had a double, single and RBI. Lucy Gordon had a triple and RBI. Bianca Cortez and Ashlyn Cox each added a hit.

Logan faces Northwestern (14-9) at 5 p.m. tonight at the Class 3A Logansport Sectional.

CASTON 2, TAYLOR 1

Logan Mollenkopf and Carson Harness combined on a one-hitter as Class 1A No. 3 Caston (18-5) won its regular-season finale in Fulton.

Mollenkopf allowed no hits and six walks in four innings, striking out six. Harness allowed one run on one hit and one walk in three innings, striking out seven.

Mollenkopf and London Herd each had a single and RBI. Gavin Mollenkopf and Brodie Howard each had a single and run scored. Parker Zimpleman had a double. Harness added a single.

Caston plays South Newton (3-15) at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Tri-County Sectional in Remington.

CENTRAL CATHOLIC 7, LOGANSPORT 1

Class 2A No. 10 Lafayette Central Catholic recorded a season split with a win at Jim Turner Field.

Kuper Jones took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits in four innings. Kolten Hudson allowed a run on three hits in three innings.

Camden Chapman had a double and single to lead the offense. Taylor Albright had two hits. Parker Hayden had a pinch-hit RBI double. Jones had a single and run scored.

The Berries (17-10) face Peru (15-9) at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Class 3A Logansport Sectional.

PIONEER SPLITS

Pioneer split a pair of games in Royal Center. The Panthers beat Argos 11-1 and lost to South Newton 13-9.

Jaxson Merrick pitched a five-inning no-hitter in the opener for the Panthers (7-18, 7-9 HNAC), who tied for fifth with North Judson in the conference standings. He allowed one unearned run on four walks and struck out 10. He went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.

Gabe Scott had a double, single and two RBIs. Hunter Stover had a double, single and RBI. Tyler Erickson had a single and RBI. Charles Grandstaff added a hit.

Pioneer fell behind 12-0 after two innings of play against South Newton and almost came all the way back.

Grandstaff held the Rebels to four runs (two earned) on four hits and four walks in six innings, striking out nine. He had a home run, single and two RBIs at the plate.

Stover also hit a home run. Merrick had a double, single and two RBIs. Braxton Maciejewski, Lane Weldy, JJ Solano and Jayson Layman each added a hit.

Pioneer plays West Central (14-5) at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Class 1A Tri-County Sectional in Remington.

WINAMAC SPLITS

Winamac closed out the regular season Friday with a 10-2 win over Culver and a 5-3 loss to West Central.

The Warriors (11-11, 9-7 HNAC) finish fourth out of nine teams in the conference standings.

Freshman Bryant Galbreath picked up the win against Culver. He allowed one unearned run on four hits in five innings, striking out seven. Hutch Martin allowed one run on one hit in two innings with four strikeouts.

Luke Clemons had three hits and an RBI to lead the offense. Will Malchow and Peyton Burke each had a double and single. Charles Cottrell had two hits.

Martin allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits against West Central. Galbreath pitched a scoreless inning.

Burke had two hits to lead Winamac. Martin had a triple and RBI. Clemons and Xavier Adriano each had a double. Malchow and Cody Wheeler added a hit apiece.

Winamac plays Jimtown (11-11) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Class 2A Jimtown Sectional.
