CARMICHAELS, Pa. — The Potomac Valley Mudcats’ 12-game winning streak came to an end Tuesday, falling to the Carmichaels Copperheads, 4-3, in extra innings.
Potomac Valley fell to 12-1 but remains atop the Fayette County Baseball League standings. Carmichaels, which lost to the Mudcats, 3-2, on June 22, is second with a 10-1 mark.
Carmichaels loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the eighth Tuesday. Noah Broadwater (Garrett/Keyser) nearly got out of the jam with a flyout and strikeout, but Luke Camden walked it off with a single to left field.
Potomac Valley led 2-0 after the third inning following an RBI double by JJ Charlton (Garrett/Hampshire) and an RBI single off the bat of Landon McAlpine (Salem/Mountain Ridge).
Back-to-back two-out solo home runs by Dom Obiecunas and Noah Mildren tied the game in the fourth.
McAlpine doubled in a run in the next half inning, and Mildren drew the teams even again with an RBI single in the sixth.
Carmichaels’ Gianni Cantini earned the victory throwing two shutout innings of relief.
Gavin Pratt had a no decision, allowing three runs on six hits in six innings, fanning three and walking four.
Bryce Snyder (Frostburg State/Mountain Ridge) got the start for Potomac Vally in a no decision. The right-hander allowed two runs on three hits in five innings with four strikeouts to two walks.
Broadwater, who doubled, and McAlpine both had two hits each.
Potomac Valley and Carmichaels continue a game that was suspended due to fog at Memorial Field on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Mudcats lead 2-0 in the second inning.
