But some final news from the Giants’ game. Many were wondering if there would be any fines levied from the game. Yes there were. Safety Antrel Rolle was fined $7,500 for his hit on TE Kevin Boss (which was not flagged) for unnecessarily striking a defenseless receiver. Giants defensive back Michael Johnson was fined $5,000 for striking Cards QB Kurt Warner in the head area (which also didn’t get flagged and left Warner very angry at the time). Two fines were handed out for penalties that were called: $5,000 each to Cardinals tackle Levi Brown for his chop block and to Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw for his punch to the head area of defensive end Darnell Dockett.

Blah, I didn't think any of that stuff warranted a fine.

They should have give DD $5,000 for the beautiful acting job he did after Bradshaw threw the punch.:D

Im glad the NFL acknowledged that the blow to Warner's head was a violation. I thought the same thing about Rolle's hit, so I guess it balances itself out.

Everything else is warranted too.

Bah, hit on a defenseless receiver? If you want to go with unnecessary roughness/blow to the head, okay, but hit on a defenseless receiver? What, our DBs are just supposed to let them catch the ball clean?

"Shame on you, Antrel...you can't touch him, he's DEFENSELESS."

Yea this is definitely no longer the NFL I grew up watching. That's why I love a guy like Wilson so much. He just flat out doesn't care about penalties and/or fines. Sucks when they happen, but he isn't going to change the way he plays and I respect that. He could have played in any era.

The football you watched growing up didn't feature people with near the size or speed that the players in today's NFL possess. As it is, most of the players from years ago are still living disabled and dying young. If he wants the NFL to continue to exist Goodell has no choice but to be proactive with this stuff.

I agree about Wilson though

I seem to remember an interview where Wilson said something to the effect that he budgets for fines and doesn't let it affect how he plays.

The things that left me wondering were the head shot on Kurt and Dansby's penalty. Kurt was clearly hit in the head and on another play "driven" into the turf. Both of those play looked like fouls but were not called. Dansby, on the other hand, hit poor little Eli but then put his arms out and fell to the side. This is exactly what the NFL requires. He was not fined. If there was any doubt about his hit he would have been fined today. The refs protected the little Manning boy, but not Kurt Warner. Either call them all equally or let them play football.

Well, if we're ok going the pansy route.. Then as the game gets safer, the salaries should go WAAAAAY down, since that seems to be the lead argument for why they think they are worth so damn much.. right?

IMO medical advancement has already made life after the NFL 10 times better than what it was for the guys pre-1980's... and they ended up with 20 times less the amount of dough in the bank players today leave the game with.

Hopefully these fines go to further the training of the crappy refs in the league.

Good post Dan...We all wondered where the refs were coming from on Sunday night. We had to play them and the giants and we still came out with a win.AMAZING STUFF!!!

Tons of holds on CC & DD and interference on Fitz a couple times at critical times at least. It was the worst so far this year.I thought the game was in the bag for the giants for a while the way things were being called.Looked like NBA refs.:D
