The Pittsburgh Panthers distance runners have gone largely overlooked this outdoor track season. This is largely because of marvelous performances from the Panthers throwers and sprinters.
Pitt distance runners had a chance to grab a little spotlight themselves at this past weekend's Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton, New Jersey. The seven Panthers male distance runners took advantage of the opportunity.
Six of the Pitt men that competed at the 31-team Larry Ellis Invitational grabbed a top-6 finish.
Senior Luke Miller took the victory in the 5000 meter run. He did so by coming from behind on the final lap to record a season-best 13:58.84 in the event. Teammate Thomas McMahon, a freshman, came in fourth in the 5000 at 14:10.98.

In the 1,500 meters, the Panthers also had a pair who placed in different races. Junior Luke Simpson ran to a fifth place finish in his race, running it in a season-best 3:43.91. In the Mike Brady 1,500 meter, senior Finn Walsh ran 3:42.91 to take 6th place.
Pittsburgh also took two places in the men's 10,000 meter run. Senior Peyton Geehrer ran to second place with 30:47.28. Followed closely behind was teammate and fellow senior Quintin Gatons, who's 30:54.79 was good enough for third place.
The Panthers had three women compete in the Larry Ellis Invitational as well. Ellen Baker, Camy Kiser, and Sienna Miller all ran season-bests in the 1,500 meters.
Pitt's sprinters, throwers and jumpers competed at the Stan Romanoski Open this past weekend. The Panthers will next be in action May 15 through May 17 at the ACC Outdoor Championships.
