The Pittsburgh Pirates traded left-handed reliever Joe La Sorsa to the Boston Red Sox for cash considerations. La Sorsa triggered an upward mobility clause in his contract over the weekend.
The 28-year-old signed with the Pirates as a minor-league free agent in the offseason. He spent the season with Triple-A Indianapolis, where he went 1-1 with a 3.46 ERA, six walks and 22 strikeouts in 26 innings across 22 appearances.
La Sorsa spent parts of three seasons in the big leagues from 2023-25 with three teams and is 1-1 with a 5.21 ERA in 46 career relief appearances.
It’s the second trade this week for the Pirates involving a relief pitcher. On Monday, Pittsburgh sent right-hander Justin Lawrence to the Minnesota Twins for cash considerations.
