The Boston Red Soxmade a trade for a Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher before sending down long-time starter Brayan Bello following the team's 8-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles, Ari Alexander for 7News reported.

"Lefty reliever Joe La Sorsa has been traded to the Red Sox from the Pirates," Alexander said. "He was in the Pirates system, pitched for Team Italy with Greg Weissert in the WBC."

La Sorsa has bounced around a ton since making his Major League debut in 2023. He has played for the Tampa Bay Rays, the Washington Nationals and the Cincinnati Reds in addition to Pittsburgh and Boston.

He has a 5.21 career ERA through 46 appearances, but Boston wasn't the only team that had interest in the reliever.

"The Pirates signed him this summer. He had an opt-out -- just like Tommy Kahnle -- the upward mobility clause. He triggered the upward mobility clause.

"In that window, there were a bunch of teams that were interested in him -- I heard at least three wanted to trade for him -- The Red Sox got it done."

La Sorsa will take Bello's spot on the 26-man roster immediately.

It is still unclear what the Red Sox plan to do about the hole in their rotation. Interim manager Chad Tracy has until Tuesday to figure out a solution.
